Syracuse has a huge Pagan community, and leadership of many of the large American traditions and groups either started there or ended up there.

Get thee to Seven Rays Bookstore, which is a smorgasbord of things new age, pagan, paranormal, etc, and read the bulletin board to find local groups or pay for their ridiculous classes, visit Witchvox.com and search under New York, or just join the Syracuse Pagan yahoogroup.

    It is worth your time.

I have lived in several major cities, and ONLY in Syracuse could I find, in less than 10 minutes, representatives from every major Pagan group and tradition.

    Merry Meet,

If you are interested about learning Wicca and/or Witchcraft here are a few legitimate sources to glean knowledge from. One being Witchvox at http://www.witchvox.com/. Here you will gain knowledge through fellowship with other of like mind and knowledge through the countless articles posted. If this is not enough one could look into getting online training through the Sacred Mists at http://www.workingwitches.com/wicca/cour… or OZ Wicca at http://www.ozwicca.com/ , both are pretty decent for learning the Craft on the Web.

Also if you are close enough to a group that specializes in education and development like the SCWF try and join them even if it’s on a limited capacity. Ultimately, study, study and then study some more. Find all you can and definitely cross reference whenever possible, this way you can get the best out of all you learn.

I also suggest that you get your hands on Wicca for Beginners by Thea Sabin and/or The Circle Within by Dianne Sylvan. Both of these books are very good reading and both will give you some deeper insight to the Craft and how it relates to you. Also you cannot go wrong with anything by Scott Cunningham.

If you are a teen, I suggest Elements of Witchcraft: Natural Magick for Teens by Ellen Dugan. Teen Witch by Silver Ravenwolf is also good. But neither are completely accurate, but they will help you out.

Ultimately, study as much as you need to before deciding that you are Wiccan. Find those near you who are reputable and knowledgeable. Also stay away from those who are playing Wicca if you are serious about the religion and the craft, they will only slow you down and/or mislead you. Also, read all the books you can, the good ones as well as the bad ones.

Let you be the one that decides who’s a good or bad author not someone else, because every author in my book has something to offer all you have to do is ignore the information that is not accurate. Oh, and when the opportunity rises cross reference the information learned for accuracy.

I hope my blurp helps out.

    Blessed Be

    Nyjh

Look for a real flesh and blood teacher by asking around at herbalist stores, metaphysical shops, and checking at witchvox.com for local connections.

Short of that, you’re best bet is to hop over to Amazon and ebay and pick up some reliable books. Look for books that use the words "lesson," "exercise," and "homework." Those are the ones that will actually teach you.
No one needs a "school" to be Wiccan. Wiccan means believing that divinity is male and female, believing that all people are equal, having reverance for the Earth, and following the rule "Do what you want as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone." If you live with those basic ideas, you can call yourself Wiccan. What people call Wicca schools are magick schools and magick/witchcraft and Wicca are not the same thing. A lot of Wiccans don’t even bother with doing magick, just as most Catholics don’t study to become Priests or Nuns.

Avoid the Frosts’ "School of Wicca" at all costs. They are full of garbage, they’re only out to make money by claiming that magick will solve every problem in your life easily, and are morally bankrupt. They’re also complete morons. For example, they believe that once a man gets "good enough" he will reincarnate as a woman. They say that there’s evidence then offer jack. They say that gay men are almost good enough to be women, or perhaps they are women but the doctor made a mistake when they were born and somehow no one’s noticed since that they have penises.penises. Wackos. Long story short, not that school!

    Whatever you do, good luck.
