We are our bodies, and nothing happens after death. Ghosts do not exist. Does this help?

Perhaps you should study evolutionary biology and neurobiology and philosophy and figure out how brain processes give rise to self-awareness. That would be a much more worthy goal.

  11. ThAt duDe (Neil) says:

    After reading your entire question,

I think that you should pursue some philosophy classes as well as writing. Who knows? Maybe you will become this century's renowned philosopher?

The meaning of your life is this :: if you keep believing in myths you will go blind and as for turning into a ghost ??? for you and the Christian religion i am afraid its over ,so when death comes you should just surrender and take it on the chin like the rest of us who are going to be worm food .

  22. Neilbe says:

    Hi Cp,

If you really wish to open your mind, then I
    would suggest doing 2 things.

The first is to act. Loving, sharing, giving, listening,
    feeling, growing, helping.

And the second is to stop certain things. Killing, lying,
    jealousy, spitefulness, deceitfulness, selfishness, greed,
harmful speech and any hateful action that will cause
    you and others to suffer.

These things done with real humility, sensitivity and honesty
will, I believe, give you all the answers your looking for.

Just try it for yourself before making any judgement.

When you love everybody, life becomes easy.

For a truly open mind there can be no prejudice.

    Just try it for yourself.

  23. Jennifer-Ann says:

It's The Big One. Not the rollercoaster at Blackpool or the fat guy that sits next to you on the bus, but the most asked question by philosophers and thinkers alike since man invented the toilet. No, not why Eric Cantona insists on wearing his collar upturned like he's about to put on a tie at any point during a match. Why the hell are we here? What is our purpose in life?

Well, the only certain thing about life is death. Yeah, the reason we live is to die. But first, it seems, one has to experience cheese rolling, the thrill of running over a dead cat and pelting John Prescott with eggs before they have truly 'lived'. Alternatively you could just stay at home watching football and eating McDonalds every day. That works just as well.

For you see, life is all about making your own choices. Whether to go to work naked or in a chicken suit, to see what happens if you put a rat in the microwave, to poke your manager in the eye with a banana or a custard pie. You live and die by your decisions (or lack thereof, in the case of whether or not to ignore that 'live wires' sign).

And it's not as if anyone is arsed about you. You are just one, insignificant speck on the landscape, a dog hair in your lasagne, another brick in the wall. That is, unless you are a talentless nobody that just so happens to be the offspring of a mega-rich businessman, in which case you can do no wrong.

  24. Niamh says:

The meaning of life is to die.To become unborn. To re-emerge with the source of our being.Unless we die.. while alive.. to all worldly illusion and delusion of the false ego self we are existing in separation from the source of our being…Life on earth is to become aware of the true nature of our being and to stop being born over and over again into worldly suffering. We are universal consciousness that is reborn into another body every time we humanly die.To liberate consciousness from this cycle of death and rebirth we need to literally wake up to who we truly are…not this sleepy human that is conditioned by our own perception of reality..you don't need evidence through ghosts or psychics to know what you are..to know what you are simply occurs when you know what you are not..so the meaning of life is to unlearn.Once we have unlearned(died) to the ego self we have created we become what we truly are.Infinite blissful universal consciousness.

  25. Johnny B Good says:

The states of heaven and hell are nothing but states of intensive experiences of the consciousness of the soul, experiencing either of the predominant counterparts of the opposite impressions while the soul is dissociated from the gross human body or form. The soul itself does not go to heaven or hell, as is the general belief, because it is eternally infinite and eternally in the Over-Soul. It is the consciousness of the soul, which experiences the impressions.

If the predominant counterpart of the impressions of opposites (such as virtue and vice, good and evil, male and female, etc.), as experienced by the soul now associated only with the subtle and mental, is of virtue or goodness (i.e., the positive aspect of the opposite impressions), then the soul is said to be in heaven. If it is of vice or evil (i.e., the negative aspect of opposite impressions), then the soul is said to be in hell.

Among abnormal kinds of death, suicide deserves special attention. Suicide may be divided into four grades, (1) lowest, (2) low, (3) high, and (4) highest.

The lowest type is a last measure in escaping punishment or ignominy or utter frustration after the individual has tried unscrupulously to satisfy his own selfish desires. Thus one who has committed murder for lust or power may commit suicide when he is caught. Even after leaving the body, such a person does not succeed in severing his link with the gross world for hundreds of years. These individuals live literally as ghosts in the semi-subtle sphere, which lies between the gross and subtle world. They experience agonizing suffering because
of their unfulfilled desires. Due to the link which they preserve with the gross world, they continue to desire various gross objects keenly, a desire which can never be fulfilled. This suffering is even more acute than the intense sufferings in the hell-state* that the individual experiences after he severs his connection with the gross world.

A somewhat less acute class of suffering in imagination is experienced in the hell-state by suicides who have been slightly better motivated, but who are still classified as "low". In this group are those motivated by sheer disgust with life. Thus a person suffering from bad health, or stricken by a loathsome disease, or one who is poverty stricken and ashamed of being a burden on others, might put an end to his life through lack of will to live.

Since the cause of such a suicide is revulsion from earthly life, the ego-mind does not continue to maintain any enduring link with the gross world beyond the normal three or four days following death. After that normal period, the link is snapped and the ego-mind then begins to experience the intense suffering of its bad impressions, usually termed the hell-state.
