In an attempt to break a Guinness World Record, Cathy Matthews and about 106 other people — many of whom, like herself, are fans of the Facebook game “Frontierville” — posted a whopping 1,001,291 comments to a single Facebook post, KTXL-TV in Sacramento reports.

Matthews and her friends have submitted the post to Guinness World Records and are now waiting to hear back about whether or not they’ve officially broken the record.

The original post, which was written on the wall of a Facebook group called “Ffgpioneers/gwr/attempt” on October 30, 2011, has garnered even more comments since the group submitted their claim to the record keeping organization.

With slightly more than 100 people participating, each person had to comment on the post an average of about 9,300 times.

This would have been much more difficult just one year ago, before Facebook introduced its new commenting system. Prior to March 2011, the world’s largest social network required users to press “comment” with their mouse before a comment would appear on a post. But as The Next Web reports, Facebook began rolling out a new system in March of last year, so now users only have to press “return” or “enter” to post a comment.

“The most comments on a single Facebook item” record currently stands at 529,335, according to Guinness World Records. That record, held by Roberto Esposito, was set on June 29, 2011.

Zynga, the company behind Frontierville, holds several Guinness World Records itself. Not only is it “the most popular Facebook games developer,” but its “Cityville” was named “the most popular game on Facebook” in 2010.

According to WLS Chicago, a man walked into Kirk’s office at the Kluczynski Federal Building just after 3 p.m. Friday, broke a window and threatened to jump from the 35th floor.

â??Officers with the Federal Protective Service (FPS) today responded to a distress alarm from the Chicago office of U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk and apprehended an individual who was making threatening statements,â? Chris Ortman, a Homeland Security spokesman, told the Chicago Sun-Times. â??The suspect is being treated for injuries at Northwestern [Memorial] Hospital.â?

A source also told the Sun-Times that the man made a threat against President Obama.

A Kirk spokesman told NBC Chicago that the senator was on naval duty when the incident occurred. It was unclear whether the man made any threats or statements against the republican senator.

The FBI is investigating the incident.
