Donald Mason, 49, was found in the upstairs bedroom of a Miami home that he was renovating. Investigators have not determined the cause of death, but his brother told the paper, Mason hit fell from a chair while swatting at a swarm of bees and hit his head.

Mason was trying to renovate the home on a limited budget and had tried to fog spray the hive in the wall, and then tried to patch up the hole in the wall with tape.

Police told the Herald that Mason’s death is considered unclassified, but it’s more likely his death was due to the fall, rather than anything to do with the bees.

Willie Sklaroff, also known as ‘the bee man,’ who runs a bee extermination company was called into help and said there were at leas 60,000 bees living inside the walls of the house, reports Local10.com.

After caring for a 32-year-old horse in declining health, a woman identified by police as Jasha Lottin and her boyfriend, John Frost, put it down with a single gunshot from a large calibre rifle.

What they did next has sparked “extreme emotional reactions,” and even death threats.

“People are shocked … horrified. It’s extremely shocking,” Washington County Sgt. Dave Thompson told The Huffington Post.

Once the couple shot and gutted the horse, 21-year-old Lottin took off her clothing, climbed inside the carcass and took photos. After posting them online, the couple was met with an avalanche of criticism that lead to a police investigation for animal cruelty.

As well as photos of Lottin inside the horse’s body, there are many others, one of which appears to depict the couple posing with the animal’s heart.

The couple’s explanation for the photos — and later eating the animal? According to authorities at the department, the pair wanted to feel “one with the horse” and nature.

“This is definitely number one on the oddity list,” Thompson said. “It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before.”

According to the incident report obtained by The Huffington Post, detectives ruled no charges would be filed against the pair since nothing they did is technically illegal in the state of Oregon.

“The fact that this woman crawled into the horse between killing and eating does not constitute a crime,” Thompson said.

“If they had killed the horse just for the purpose of taking the photographs, then we would have had a case for animal cruelty,” he added

Lottin’s mother told KOIN that since the incident, they have received death threats and other hostile messages from people countrywide, accusing her daughter of everything from Satan worship to perversion.

According to Thompson, both Lottin and Frost have currently left the state temporarily. While there are strict U.S. laws against desecration of human bodies, actions with animal bodies have little to no regulation.

68-year old David Lavau had been missing for six days, reports the AP. His family searched frantically for him, using his cell-phone records as a clue, before improbably locating him in a ditch in Angeles National Forest, north of Los Angeles. Lavau had driven off the road and had survived alone for six days, subsisting only on bugs, leaves, and creek water. He has three rib fractures, a dislocated shoulder, a broken arm and fractures in his back, and is expected to be released from hospital within a matter of days.

But that’s not what makes the story so unusual. Lying just a few feet from Lavau was a dead man who had also gone missing.

He appears to be Melvin Gelfland, an 88-year-old former liquor store owner, reports The Los Angeles Times. Gelfland had been missing for two weeks, and his daughter, Joan Matlack, said the police had found his identification in his car.

Matlack said she thought her father had been on his way to a casino in San Diego, and is unsure how he ended up north of, instead of south, of Los Angeles. “What a bizarre coincidence that they landed almost touching each other,â? Matlack said. â??Weâ??re grateful that this other family didnâ??t give up. We would have no idea where he was had that not happened. We had no clues.â?

Lisa Lavau, David’s daughter, told CBS2 how she located her father, along with her siblings Charddonay and Sean:

â??We know our dad. My dad would never not call his kids. Thereâ??s four of us, and just by the time that fourth day, the fifth day and then the sixth day, we knew something was wrong. I live in San Francisco, so I drove up with my daughter and I said, â??If anybody can find our dad, itâ??s us. We know heâ??s alive.â?? And so, we stopped at every ravine and looked over every hill. And then my brother got out of the car and we kept screaming and the next thing, we heard Dad say, â??Help, help!â?? and there he was.”

The Daily Mail has dramatic photographs of the moment that Lavau’s son discovered him.

The fact that that the two men ended up so close to each other seems to be purely coincidental, beyond the danger of the road from which they veered. But it was a coincidence that worked out well for Lavau. Food and clothes he recovered from Gelfland’s car helped him survive his ordeal.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Lavau, expecting the worst, had written a farewell note on his car’s trunk. It read: â??I love my kids. Dead man was not my fault. Love, Dad.â?
