  1. Randy P says:

It's hard to keep anything that physically large completely secret. We know people go to work there, people live in the area and see things (which is one thing that makes the "moon-landing hoax" stuff so silly).

All signs coming from neighbors and what little is known is that it is used for testing and development of advanced aircraft, like the no-longer secret Stealth Bomber and Stealth Fighter. Keep in mind that until they actually started flying in missions, the existence of Stealth technology was top secret and nobody in the Pentagon would confirm or deny that it existed.

No aliens or UFOs, sorry. Unless you count as "UFO" an aircraft in a shape or using materials that isn't normally seen.

  2. Nick says:

It's in Arizona I believe (maybe New Mexico) but I think you can find it if you use Google Earth. Of course, it won't say "Hey! here is Area 51" but its in the middle of nowhere and heavily guarded with barbed wire and all sorts of stuff like cameras and no roads leading to it (except off roads).

  3. Hera says:

    its possible

  4. Mike R says:

no such thing as alien spacecraft on earth. probably government testing for top secret technoligies though. tough to say since it is heavily guarded, anybody can publish any lame brained idea they want and nobody can prove them wrong.

  5. Jonny W says:

i think its a weapons and technology base were they develop and test top secret weapons but dont think theres any aliens there

  6. Growl says:

Area 51 was a major research and development center for advanced performance military aircraft. Practically all of our high performance military aircraft were developed there. Secrecy was always essential.

The UFO freaks have blown the cover on Area 51. I doubt that anything interesting is currently being developed there. Where is our new research center? It could be in any isolated are, possibly in another country (Brazil?).

  7. nukecat25 says:

I think the United States needs facilities and testing grounds like Groom Lake to stay on the cutting edge of science and aeronautics.
I saw a show where a guy who was friends with the head of one of the major aircraft defense contractors that worked with skunk works. He knew this friend for years and it was understood that the nature of his work was off limits to conversation. But one day he asked his friend "what are you guys putting up there?". His friend simply replied "it's fifty years beyond your imagination."
On the matter of crashed alien aircraft and technology I think if it is true than that should be divulged to the world. That would be bigger than national security or defense. Our understanding of our place in the universe and in the spectrum of life would be completely changed.

  8. The Black Hole™ says:

    1. It's in Nevada (southwest)
    2. It is a large secretive military airfield.
    3. Anything you see in Area 51 that is mysterious is "Pure Speculations".

  9. Ozzy D says:

It could be possible. However let's look at a few facts people thought they saw aliens fly over Area 51 during the 50's and it turned out to be top secret test planes such as The SR-71 Blackbird stealth bomber and various other planes such as the F-117A stealth fighter. There are other stories such as that they used alien technology to build these sophisticated planes. I even heard of idea's that they were building a time machine too! The one thing I do know for sure about Area 51 is it was used during the 50's for nuclear bomb testing that was done underground. It is believed there is a huge complex under ground there where all these secrets are tested & experimented! It's apparently a mile deep in the ground there too! who knows? The one thing I am very sceptical about is why in America? Why do all these amazing things about aliens and other weird things only happen in America and no where else? That is the real mystery question! I do think that this whole alien thing & Area 51 has made a lot of money from tourists as such. However I do think it's time for the government to come out with the truth about what really goes on in that Area 51 of course we will never know. Maybe it is better not knowing, who knows it might be very terrifying to know the truth. Also if aliens were kept there it would never become public because of religion reasons. God supposedly created life but it doesn't say he created aliens!

  10. Billy Butthead says:

It's a military testing facility,so it is not open to the public.
Some incidents that may have occurred have been misinterpreted and myths built up around them.
No alien ever has or ever will visit earth.

  11. DaveSFV says:

Area 51 or Groom Lake is located in Nevada. There are not any UFO there nor anywhere on earth. It was, yes was, a military testing and flight testing facility. Although it is still active most of the flight testing has been moved to a more remote site.

  12. rowster says:

i would tell you…………….but then I'd have to kill you.

But seriously, our government has many more toys than they show and tell. Area 51 is still active with new test items. Some are shipped to areas that aren't flagged as of yet for further testing. But the thing about "UFO sightings" and just plain nosey people is that we say more about what our government is doing than we should for other countries to pick up on. There's a reason for secrecy and trusting only a few people who have been proven to keep their mouth shut. We do a disservice at times to our own government without even meaning to. I'm not talking about things like scandals and aliens. Just security and military power that fights for our freedom. Has anyone ever thought that maybe our government is trying to build something that can be traveled in for use in space? Sometimes the only aliens are the ones crossing the borders illegally.

  13. Will says:

Oh, it's there all right. It's about 90 miles north of Las Vegas, at a dry lake bed called Groom Lake. You can see everything for yourself. Go to google, click on 'maps', and type in this:

    n 37 14.5 w 115 49.0

Then click on 'Satellite', and zoom in on the green arrow. Not the red push pin that it tries to draw you to. You will notice that it's just an air base. Runways, hangers, and a bunch of smaller buildings. There are no flying saucers there, but this is where every interesting plane that the military has developed over the last 40 years was tested. And they're still doing it. Every weekday morning a 737 full of civilian employees leaves from Las Vegas and drops them off here. And while I'd love to see what they're working on, I can understand the need for secrecy there. Some more info is at the link below.

And the UFO is supposed to have crashed near Roswell, NM, which is about 300 miles SE.
