If by “secret society” you mean “bored teenage boys” then yes.
In some areas the people who make the are well known, apparently their designs are distinctive enough to be as good as a signature.
EDIT: Oh, and the high tech gadgetry consists of boards of wood and string. It’s only straw they’re bending down. Now if they were doing them in forests, that would be a skill. A highly ecolologically damaging skill.
Yes, Secret Societies (College Fraternities) are behind this nonsense. They are probably the only ones that could pull this off. The equipment that they use to create these “amazing shapes” are survey instruments. This will give them the correct angles and such. They probably will then press the vegetation down with some sort of roller. This piece of equipment works similar to a huge square or compass. If we were to go up in the air in a helicopter, and look down at the earth, we would see all sorts of perfect shapes in roads and buildings, such as circles, squares, and curves. It looks identical to something drawn on a drafting table. Ever wonder how engineers create such perfect shapes over such a large area? They use survey instruments. There is nothing spectacular about crop circles, compared to everything else we would see from the sky, looking down at the earth.
Crop circles have been showing up for hundreds of years……I do not believe people are behind them. but not necessarily aliens either.
They are amazing alright and destroy lots of personal property. They should be shot.
