i've had two experiences with psychics 1 good and 1 nutter.

the first one, I called a psychic hotline (don't remember the name) shortly after my uncle died. She was very clear and accurate. She told me a deceased family member had came to greet him upon his passing. The deceased family member she described so well and accurately that it made my hair stand on end. I didn't give her any info other than my uncle had passed away. Never mentioned any other family members. The one that she described was my great grandmother who had come to greet my uncle. Neato!

The second one was on the internet. I had asked her about my husband's business in Africa and if it will do well. He told me that it'd be successful and we'd move to Africa. The business went down the tubes and we didn't move to Africa! lol

No, don't worry. There's nothing dangerous about psychic readings, except if one actually believes in the stuff. Magical woo-woo thinking can lead to making poor choices in life that one may end up regretting.

A couple of reasons they might be concerned.
If you have a Christian family pays attention to the Bible, they are worried for the fact that you will burn in hell for consulting a medium or psychic.
They also might be concerned that you are throwing your money away on conmen.

Mediums can't really contact the dead so they use a technique called cold reading.

If you must visit one make sure you record your session so that you can go over it after and note how many times that he made wrong guesses which you may not tend to notice at the time of the reading.
Also make sure your words and body language don't accidentally give away any information, the medium uses those clues to determine what information to tell you.

My worst psychic reading was one woman in Sedona Arizona. She made me draw tarot cards and she had me tell her what I thought they meant. Then she charged me $30 for that.

I'd be careful of people who use a spirit guide to figure things out. You never know if their spirit guide is telling the truth or not, or even knows what is going on.

I haven't had any bad experiences, but you have. At least one. What I mean is you just got scammed by a charlatan pretending to have abilities he doesn't actually possess. I hope you didn't give him too much of your hard earned money.

The only harm you will experience from a medium is financial in nature.
